Trasylol®: What You Should Know
Trasylol® is commonly administered in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG). The procedure is used to alleviate plaque deposits that significantly inhibit the flow of blood to the heart muscle. While the CABG procedure is relatively safe, some patients may experience complications that can lead to serious injury and even death.
The mass tort team at DeBry & Associates, is carefully monitoring the progression of the FDA Trasylol® Advisory that was issued after two recent research studies identified potential risks.
What Led to the Trasylol® Advisory?
The studies identified a correlation between the use of Trasylol® and an increased risk of kidney problems, heart attacks and strokes in people who have been given the drug during coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG).
The FDA also advised that doctors should carefully weigh the potential benefits and risks of Trasylol® before administering the drug to their patients. Furthermore, any patients who are given the drug should be carefully monitored for signs of toxicity to the kidneys, heart and central nervous system. Any adverse events must be promptly reported to Bayer or the FDA Medwatch program.
Who Should I Contact?
Patients who have experienced complications after coronary artery bypass surgery should contact their medical providers to determine if Trasylol® was used for their procedure. If Trasylol® was administered, the drug may have factored into post-surgical complications.
If you feel you may have been adversely affected by the use of Trasylol® and have experienced any of the following problems after coronary artery bypass graft surgery. . .
